@stux nice. Going to give it a try. I plug my iPhone into my monitor and connect the Xbox controller to it to play games. It's a mini console at this point tbh.

When I was younger and we first got a PC at home, the first "creative" thing I did was designing Habbo Hotel badges for my own private hotel in MS Paint. Pixel by pixel!

Creating this 2D Pixel Game in UE kinda brings me back a little :blobcatgiggle:


@stux I played SimCity 2000, Streets of SimCity, and SimCopter on Windows 95. You used to be able to build a map in SCURK (SimCity Urban Renewal Kit), play it in SimCity, drive around it in Streets of SimCity and fly around in it in SimCopter.

I miss having that level of interoperability between games

Unreal Engine always creates monsters of projects

This relative simple pixel 2D game only uses sprites and tilemaps but the project map still is over 21GB :blobcatgiggle:


Altough I do still have some levels in prep

@stux That is why sometimes the engine gets in the way. For your use case of building a pixel 2d game with sprites and tilemaps you might want to consider game maker, gdevelop or solar2d.

It took some puzzling but I added a "Best time per level" for each map

So besides getting an GameCenter achievement for completing you also get a time and only the best will be saved per level

Would be cool if people could do speedruns or whatever :blobcatgamer:

I went with total monsters killed!

If the player completes a level or levels up during a level it will get saved and written to the leaderboards

If a new game is used the highest score from previous always counts first

Had to change camera to perspective since the orthographic still has many bugs but it's almost the same-ish

4 enemy types and over 20 enemies or something, also "bosses"

Player can ground- and wall slide and has super precise controls

One does not dictate rules on another's server I think!

If you don't like decisions made by your admin there are always thousands of other instances to move to that perhaps do fit your view ❤️

If that's also not the case, you can always setup your own Fedi server and block all you want, no hard feelings

All we can do is suggest things to each other to make it better, not forcing it

"You should block [X] because [reason, e.g. they federate with Threads]. We block anyone federated with Threads" is no more dictatorial than saying "Don't tell other servers who to block, don't warn them you block servers that federate with Threads".

People can run servers as they please, federate and block as they please, develop policies and red lines between themselves. Defederation cuts both ways.

@stux This is Mastodons greatest strength, and also it's greatest flaw. You are bound to find a place for yourself. But servers are subject to the whims of the admins.

I've personal experience with this. Having to leave a previous server. Because my Admin, while a resonable guy, left after a spat with less reasonable admins. It was handed to another admin, also a reasonable guy. But the service, once smooth, became unstable and buggy. Now I'm here, considering whether to pay for my own server.
