transition selfies thread

August, 2 years! I started walking for several hours per day, for both my mental and physical health.

There are so many mornings now when I wake up, put on my old worn out glasses, go to the bathroom and see a girl in the mirror. It's so joyful! Even if it's still sometimes confusing after so many years thinking that this was impossible. It clearly isn't though. 🥰

Here's some music I made. I'm pinning this and will update it if I publish more. I'll try naming the genres—but I kind of consider all of it to be nu jazz.

Hiii! (boosts welcome!)

To you queers I'm Jasmine [ʝasˈmiːn], neuroqueer baby emerita and silly mum to a lovely preschooler.

Most of my life was about music, until I eventually switched to philosophy, and then to politics, and eventually to myself. There's been a bunch of special interests and uncountable hyperfixations, and I've likely moved on from more things than most approach in the first place.

I'm on a mental health journey, uncovering, recovering, untangling and rebraiding my whole life. It is really taking me places. And I love the person I'm becoming! So I post a lot of selfies, but the changes on the inside are honestly the best ones. I'm learning so much every day!! 🥰

I'm a relationship anarchist! Flirting is fun as long as everybody's reading the room—just don't make it weirder than me please.

Lots of love! 💕

My important trans threads!

These three were pinned individually before, but I want to pin other things too, so I'm linking them instead now.

The quote that made me accept myself

Fighting the world as your authentic self is better than fighting yourself on behalf of the world.

On trans joy as the solution

Trans people deserve to start out from a place of joy.

Transitioning is an act of radical self-love

Transitioning is an act of loving yourself because it presupposes that you accept yourself and decide to let yourself blossom, and it is radical because your whole life has taught you not to do it.

zero replies 😑

is this an unsolved problem? I know several voice synths that do read well enough, and did so several years ago already. but they were embedded in games etc.

I was using the android "read aloud" feature earlier, and it was kinda painful for a number of reasons.

So:

  • My brain won't let me read for many minutes, so I need things read out loud to me.
  • Android's built-in reader is too machine-like and my brain can't handle it.
  • I need some versatility in how to initiate it, like from the text selection context menu, or optionally using copying the text into a dedicated app.
  • My budget is practically zero.

Is this solvable?

Took me the entire day to get ready and go out—but I did it!

We're 15°C short of thaw and consequently have 2 dm of snow. It's nice for a change! But with how I lost two months this summer to trauma coping, I can't help but long for it to return as soon as possible. I have so many summer clothes I never got to wear yet!

from now on whenever someone says "can you google that" I'm gonna mishear it as "can you doodle that" and then I'll pick up my phone and do a quick drawing of whatever I imagine the answer to their question is.

still two hours left on this poll, which turned out really popular 😊

and there are so many interesting replies!! but considering the subject, I'd feel a bit weird boosting them, but I think they're all worth reading ❤️

re: homophobia and transphobia mentioned

@follpvosten my roomie was a gay guy when we were 16–17. he didn't come out until later, but uh… he could be kinda provocative sexually 😂

back then I used to sleep (just sleep, fully dressed, completely non-sexually) with my closest friend when we were 16–18, who was bi. we held hands on walks. last year she told me I helped her accept her bisexuality. i have no memory of that, but apparently we talked about it a lot and my attitude made her feel much more relaxed about it. 🥲

and then my little sister came out as a lesbian when I was ~23–25 or something.

so… I mean after all the bullying focusing on gender and sexuality, you'd expect me to at least be a bit sensitive around it, but I just wasn't. so idk if it's inherently homophobic, that slightly icky feeling. not saying I had zero homophobia, because I didn't, but it doesn't really seem connected.

re: homophobia and transphobia mentioned

@follpvosten I had something similar going on with mlm! but I've pretty much figured it out now: it was dysphoria caused by how it reminded me of my own body. I had tried to be bi a lot, but my brain wouldn't allow me to get anywhere near men because of this.

to me, it doesn't fit under homophobia at all. it didn't predicate attitude or behaviour for me except that mlm was a serious turnoff—but that would only affect situations where I'd be imagining people being physical right? and that's not a thing I do. no judging, I just never enjoyed it at all and it makes me feel uneasy.

and people actually kissing in front of me… all it ever did for me was to make me want to look away, regardless of gender. I used to skip all intimate scenes in movies for example.

when you're still conscious at that level of sleepiness where part of your brain falls asleep and starts dreaming voices, so now you're sitting there, awake and touching your phone, while listening to the fake news broadcast that's happening in your left ear

i did ask!!!!

i just dug up the schedules i made, and I'm using another name for that kid there. still a masc-coded name, a pet form of the legal name. but seeing it reminded me of how I actually did ask when we had a moment alone, and then I was told to use this particular name instead, because it wasn't as bad.

sigh
