Retrofitted another photography light (this time, from an A/C adapter to use USB charging instead). Non-ideal, as it is a Lithium battery powered light; prefer to just power it direct from USB... may have to go hack into the back of it if I still have light/soldering capability. #electronics #blackout #project #diy

Awesome disaster preparedness item. This is a battery backed up lightbulb. Stays lit even if your power goes out! Will find the link. I have two, this one and one in the garage. Requires a single light circuit or light fixture. (UPDATE This is the GE LED+ Battery 60w bulb... Get a UL-listed reputable brand of these, there is some overseas not-trustworthy stuff floating around online) #disasterpreparedness #psps #blackout
@ai6yr apparently those can still work with the switch when on backup? which blows my mind
by Alec Perkins ; Manual antique coffee grinder. No plug! Bartered with a FireTwitter friend. It was their great grandparent's!! #disasterpreparedness
by AI6YR Ben ; @ai6yr Might be my german butt speaking, but this feels so phenomenally outlandish (literally). The danger of the built-in battery catching fire is higher than losing power often enough here to justify something like this… and even if there was a possibility, it seems that a ~3kw house backup battery would make more sense?
@ai6yr We had one of those at the old house. Don't know if it made it in the move... Very handy, used it during the 2 week power outage. The nice thing about it vs a lantern is it works in the light socket so it lights up the same space.
by Samhain Night ; @ai6yr I have a few of those, and I found to my delight that if you put the base in your mouth and touch an electrode with your tongue, it will light up like Uncle Fester
by rrmutt ; @ai6yr something that helped us out, these solar lights. If the power goes out just bring them inside for the night. They last all night and are mostly repairable including a replaceable battery. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09W9H1V63?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
@ai6yr That sounds like a great product. How does it know whether it’s switched off or a power outage though? Or is it an always on light bulb?

(on the plus side, BOTH of these photo lights I got for free out of boxes of junk. They have been sitting here for awhile, and I had no idea what I might use them for, but said "this might be handy for a fun project sometime!" #junkbox) 🤪

@ai6yr
Lots of photo/film led panels already take clip-on Li batteries.
