Many OECD countries regulate insurance companies. Their citizens are not at risk of bankruptcy from a medical condition.

@bicmay

Two tiers (really many more) of health care.

Single Payer and banning all "health insurance" is the answer. But it will never happen in America.

I'm sickened generally by the cancer industry.
The existence of City of Hope confuses me and makes me certain we're not getting ANY of this right.

@JosetAEtzel @bicmay As the person of responsibility in a company that is adjacent to this kind of data, it's surprising to me how misunderstood the limits of HIPAA privacy and security requirements are. I think a lot of people just assume their data is protected because in a sane world it would be. But there are shockingly few entities required to handle it with any amount of care.

There's no requirement for hospitals to participate. That's why hospitals with good reputations or may be the only care provider in a geographic location have negotiation power.

Interestingly, I was listening to KHN interview NIH Director Francis Collins and he said he was an atheist during his PhD studies and converted to Christianity after starting medical school studies.

@RobHadley @bicmay don't kid yourself. Having worked in harm reduction in Canada, plenty of Canadians are just as stupid and needle exchanges here still have to constantly fight NIMBYs to stay open. The Supreme Court decision in favour of InSite has at least established the scientific efficacy, but any time a right of center party is elected they do everything in their power to return to maximum casualty policy. They want drug users to die

So, child as punishment?

Funny how the sins of the father never fall on the father.

I grew up surrounded by that thinking. It took decades to come out from under the toxic mountain of it all.

Impacts on sexual freedom, self-image, understanding of gender-based worth and fighting out of that. Learning to be generous to other women.

It was a whole mindfuck.

Also you want comprehensibility for tech-uncertain users, decent tech & billing logistics support, and the ability to re-contact a particular therapist after a relationship is formed. Brought to you by the bad experience of someone I know who tried BetterHealth and ended up worse off than before.
