And of course this will have a ripple effect on those who didn't lose their homes as well. None of those people who lost their homes will need landscapers or housekeepers, and those cars that were burned up won't need oil changes, and when an employer moves away because their house or business burned down they're not going take their employees with them.

I see. I don't have any constructive thoughts, but I see the problem. Honestly, even if people left their keys who's going to move the cars in the moment, and where are they going to move them? You'd need a high-lift with a forks to physically pick the cars up and move them out of the way.
I normally hate the thought of autonomous vehicles, but maybe this is a use case. They're not going to abandon themselves in the middle of the road.
@VirginiaHolloway @alienghic The autonomous vehicles would all stop and cause a bigger issue.. that is what they do in San Francisco.

I'm not an expert, but I bet leaving your keys in an unlocked car would be a strike against your car theft claim with the insurance company.
It's a good idea, but not very practical.
@VirginiaHolloway @alienghic Yeah, let's trap everyone in the neighborhood while it burns, because we don't want a bad strike in our insurance record? That will go good with the murder charges.

I can think of another reason for this. Canada is currently roughly 70% white while the US is roughly 61% and decreasing. Racial identity is really important to the MAGA folks. And of course Canada has lots of natural resources, which is why the rich folks like the idea.

@stephanie The US government may have learned nothing, but as individuals some of us have. If nothing else we can stock up on N95 respirators and prepare ourselves a little bit for what we fear is to come. In March 2020 we really didn’t know what was about to hit us. More didn’t anyway. @ai6yr
