IF YOU FLY WE CAN'T

DRONES NEAR WILDFIRE ARE NOT SAFE!

Flying drones or UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) within or near wildfires without permission could cause injury or death to firefighters and hamper the ability to protect lives, property, and natural cultural resources.

Fire managers may suspend aerial firefighting until unauthorized UAS leave the area, allowing wildfire to grow larger.

@ai6yr is there a way to track the owner of a drone? I have not read any reports of people being charged for sending drones into restricted airspace.

@bibliofishy 🤷

@ai6yr I saw a report one of the Canadian fire planes was hit by a drone causing the plane to be grounded to fix the damage.

@KrissyKat Yes. I had heard the initial reports, but I missed that they actually got hit (!!).

@KrissyKat @ai6yr it was a Canadian plane that got hit?

@ai6yr Has anybody told the aliens? Maybe they could shoot fire suppression rays from their UFOs.

@ai6yr They missed the “If your drone is apprehended it will be destroyed. If you are apprehended you will be subject to a $100,000 fine and 10 years in jail” bullet point.

@ai6yr
I've seen a lot of rude drone owners so I assume some of them are also dumb.

@Puck @ai6yr A ton of them are dumb and this issue will apparently go on repeatedly and forever, aka "This is why we can't have nice things." I say this as an FAA-licensed drone operator, with the caveat that *most* of us are fully capable of understanding that we don't fly around active fire (etc.) operations! But sadly the small percentage of dumbasses are inevitable in all things.

@ai6yr ah yes the "let me fly my $2k DJI POV cam drone right in the middle of the hot zone where all the crew are sweating their arse off to fight those fires so that I can place some hot pics in my insta" fvckers. "for sure those Canadians don't mind waiting until I've got my own/tilt/zoom/focus right". Stupid idiots.
