Since there has been a huge influx of new users, I decided to write a new and actually pin it to my profile.
I'm pushing 50 years old and I live in a Red State that is trying to make me illegal. I'm a / woman married to a heterosexual cisgender woman who frequently talks about the current hellscape for people like me in my Toots.

I've been the primary to my wife for 8 years since she developed a chronic condition and went on disability.
My hobbies including short fiction, journaling my , and playing on my laptop and .
I prefer over over . Still waiting for Amazon to do something, anything with the Stargate property.
While we loved the including and , in general we prefer over .
I'm a fan of / , and , especially the existential dread of or . I tend to sympathize with the nameless terrors. I am not a fan of mindless slashers, unrelenting gore, or torture porn. Over-the-top, egregious gore that crosses into the absurd is fine, though, so I am a Sam Raimi fan, obvs. Also, are underappreciated.
I'm slowly reconnecting with my roots. I knew some stuff about and had a friend who as a tree a lifetime ago and I'm trying to rekindle that.

When I dream, I often feel like I'm borrowing someone else's life for a little while. My age, race, and gender are often different from my waking life. I occasionally feel like I'm visiting a "what if" version of Earth, an alternate. Sometimes, I even find portals between possibilities.
These stories are all based on dreams I've had.
I'll add more as time goes on.

The first I will post, I think, is the best one to show the confusion I often feel when I "wake up" in the middle of a life other than my own.

My Eyes Open

Sometimes, in my dreams, an endless stream of things will come out of my mouth. Glass, metal, living things, goo. Sometimes, things come out of other places.

Metal

Sometimes, when I dream, there are magic spells, and elemental manipulation, and communicating with anything, animals, insects, the earth itself.
Sometimes, I'm in danger.

Guardian

Sometimes, when I dream, I walk through walls, I peer into directions that I have no names for, I breakthrough to some greater understanding of the universe.
Sometimes, it starts small. It starts with self-preservation, with fear.
But that's not how it ends.

Temple of Carnelian

This is based on a reading I did with a deck of Oracle cards before the pandemic. I'll try to get a good image of the card and add it it to this post later.

First paragraph to get you started.

In the Aether there is a temple, a pyramid of stone, missing the capstone, forever bathed in the red-gold light of a setting desert sun. The doors are always open and the inside is filled with long shadows that provide respite from the heat. You are welcome to sit, relax, contemplate. You've earned your place here. If you explore, you may find the goddess of the temple, Sekhmet, she with the head of a lioness, arbiter of courage and inner strength. She may smile, she may beckon or direct, but she never speaks. It isn't necessary. In this case, she glanced at a passage off in the distance, one I hadn't yet seen. It danced with a curious flickering array of colors and so I moved toward it. Even before I could see it clearly, I felt it, like an oven, but I was strong, so I pushed forward, I had to see. My skin felt as if it may peel away, like the worst sunburn you've ever had, but still I pushed. And I saw a corridor, lengthy and filled entirely with flame.

This story was written in 2013. I'd been on for a year and half and I'd only been "out" as for a few months.

In an ordinary forest sat an unremarkable pond brimming with countless identical tadpoles.
Mottle did not like blending in. “Someday, I’m going to stand out,” she said to no one in particular.
“Why? Do you want to get eaten?” exclaimed Spish… or was it Bloit?

I submitted it to a writing contest. I did not win or even get an honorable mention. Of all the things I've written, this is the one that my wife likes the best.

It seemed like a good time to post it since there is a culture war against our right to exist.

I rely on RSS feeds and I was pretty sad to see browsers abandon them.

I'm using LiveMarks which is a Firefox extension which recreates their old built-in RSS reader.

This website lists the Top 100 Information Security RSS Feeds but I'm not sure who curates.
I'm going through some of them and, if I like them, I'll add them to this list.

Claim allergies or asthma.
That gets better reactions because they can't just tell you to stop being so sensitive, racist, and /or close minded.

My wife has both allergies and asthma and often her gasping for breaths while I dig her inhaler out of my purse is enough to get people to be like, "oh shit! my bad!"
We don't even have to ask at that point.

With Meta ripping off the mask to embrace full-throated anti-LGBT, what's a good platform for endless memes that doesn't hate me?
Maybe I'm just not following the right Fediverse hashtags, but I don't see very many here.
My Instagram feed is nonstop memes but I'm ready to leave it behind.
I've heard Tumblr went the same way, but I've never been active there.
