The Laken Riley Act, America's new immigration act, would impose sweeping changes to the system that raise serious constitutional concerns. It would penalize immigrants who live and work in the U.S. legally, subjecting them to indefinite detention without being convicted or even charged with a crime.

Rejection sensitivity is acting up so bad, I wish it felt like anyone understood or cared but it doesn't right now. lots of people are saying that the new Meta content policy is singling out queer people. in a way that's true in the sense that it specifically and pointedly called out the alphabet soup as valid targets to be called crazy, but I want to point out that the policy also names women generally and immigrants as fair game. in particular, the paragraph where you're allowed to dehumanise groups if they've "been described as doing" violence or sexual violence is a passage designed to allow stochastic terrorism on both queer people and immigrants.

❝According to the Peoria Police Department, which is investigating the police shooting, a woman called police, saying her 23-year-old ex-boyfriend was threatening her and pointed a gun at her in the area of 47th Avenue and Glendale Avenue around 7 p.m.

She gave officers a description of him and the pickup truck he drove off in.

The truck was parked on Diana Avenue along the north side of the park.

Officers approached the truck but couldn’t see inside because of the dark-tinted windows.

They tried calling for anyone inside, but no one answered; that’s when they noticed a man sitting at a gazebo at the park, investigators said.

Officers thought he was the ex-boyfriend, so they told the man to raise his hands.

He didn’t obey and “made a movement” toward his waistband, Peoria police said.

One Glendale police officer fired his gun, hitting the man.

The victim, only identified as a 46-year-old homeless man from Tucson, died at the scene.

No guns were found on the man or in the park, police said.

After the shooting, officers checked out the truck more and found the ex-boyfriend inside, who had shot himself, investigators said.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.❞
