The Last Rose of Summer is a true story about corruption in #cancer research. I discovered a cheap, plant-derived drug that could replace some much more toxic (but more lucrative) therapies. #BigPharma got involved and suppressed the research. Eventually I had to publish the story in thinly veiled fiction and survive a bunch of murder attempts.
"Mary Austin" is a pseudonym, as my publisher forced me to use one. So... hi, I'm "Mary." 🤷♀️

Yes, TikTok is limited as a foreign owned company in the amount it can use to "lobby," i.e. openly bribe, our legislators. They are working around that as best they can.
There should be consequences both for TikTok and for the US companies that invade our privacy, attack our democracy, and spread life threatening disinformation. But our legislators are much better paid to ignore the problems created by Meta and Twitter.

@ErikUden @courtcan Those of us who choose to face reality don't forget. We might even wish we could, but we don't. The people who live in pink clouds of "reality has to be what I want, good outcomes are guaranteed without risk and sacrifice" just keep doing that no matter what happens. Unfortunately, that's most white Americans.
