@Viss Mounting panels mostly is a "make sure to not make your roof leak" problem, the mounting kits are very simple mechanically. I'd have to look at the LG panels to see what those are... if it's microinverters it's just a matter of connecting them into the string. String systems are a bit harder. I have learned solar companies won't do a darn thing unless it's a completely tear off and new system nowadays... they won't touch anyone else's work, and often won't touch their own work from 15 years ago. Plus, solar companies are now populated by people who weren't moral enough for selling used cars.

@ai6yr its definitely not micro inverters. its 'power optimizers', which appear to function as basically capacitors. when the panels get shaded or there are clouds, they just dump the juice they stored into the line. i THINK its setup as a string? in the solaredge monitoring page, it says its all just one huge string
@Viss Ah, yeah, string. You need either room in the SolarEdge inverter for more panels (or swap in bigger panels), or another input for more voltage. Many inverters allow for multiple strings nowadays. But, running line safely to the inverter is non-trivial (need conduit/etc.)

@ai6yr @Viss
I've often thought if someone set up an actual -- non-scam -- solar installation and repair company, they'd make some serious bank.
I know of so many people that got ripped off ($40k for a 15kWh install), or are now stuck with a failing system that just needs a few part swaps, but there's no one willing to do it.
@johntimaeus @Viss They used to be good, but at some point it crossed from "early adopters and good companies" to "crap companies with used car salesman". I do not know when that happened. Solar is excellent, but I know of a local radio person here whose (newly installed) system is down because of equipment failure and it can't be fixed because of someone (not sure if installer or manufacturer) bankrupt.
