@ai6yr
Yeah it's nuts. And they act like there's nothing they can do about it. "Being sick sucks, but it's not Covid so at least there's that but I feel like crap..."

Gee if there was just something simple you could do and not get sick with ANY of it 🤔

@justyourluck When I was at the ER (not for me, a family member) a few months ago, there were a TON of people not wearing masks with family in the ER, or sick and going to the ER without a mask, where EVERYONE HAS EVERYTHING (this was during a huge RSV/NORO time). People: FINE, you are embarrassed to wear a mask at the store, but YOU ARE GOING TO THE MOST INFECTIOUS PLACE IN TOWN, IT"S THE EMERGENCY ROOM. EVERYONE THERE IS SICK. WEAR A MASK!!!

@justyourluck Preaching to the choir, someone I know got COVID (from their family) after visiting their dear aunt, sick, at the hospital. They were sitting in the room ooing and awing about the poor aunt getting better during visiting hours (sans mask in a hospital, mind you) and they asked the nurse: "so what's wrong with her?" and the reply was: "oh, she has a bad case of COVID" (yes... the whole family got it after the hospital visit, thankfully, none severe).

@ai6yr @justyourluck I went through this with a family member who had an emergency recently. The most disheartening thing was how many ER staff weren't masked. Or wore them for brief periods, and then took them off.

💯
There might be the occasional broken bone or gaping head wound but the majority are sick.

@ai6yr @justyourluck the stupidity stuns me. The STAFF aren’t even masking.

Several hospitals here in the UK have been shutting to new patients except for actual, ambulance-borne emergencies, due to being full with "Flu and other respiratory illnesses" - ITS COVID, PEOPLE!
And even if it's not Covid, masking drastically cuts transmission rates.
But no, no one bothers taking even the slightest of precautions these days, then complains when the NHS collapses when everyone gets ill.

@justyourluck @ai6yr gah! I still wear my N95 everywhere. The guy I rent from refuses to be seen with me out of sheer mortification, & harasses me about wearing it. Our mutual best friend of 30 years died from Covid in 2020, but he thinks the hospital killed him by putting him on a ventilator! Every time he says shit to me i tell him I havent been sick since the before times & I’ll be wearing it FOREVER!!! It’s sheer insanity! I don’t understand to be quite frank.

@DEDGirl @justyourluck I was in hybrid masking mode up until two weeks ago, when my son started talking about the hospitals being overwhelmed here. I'd mask at any store, at the library, but if it was a small store (ie proprietor and I'm the only customer, doors open) I was more lax. Now... N95 everywhere indoors/crowds. (outdoor away from people, no masking). I have to teach a class next week, and I was considering -- oh, only a small class -- but after hearing about the ER overload, N95 it is again.
