Doing some deep cleaning at my parent's and found the book that started it all... was gifted this in 5th grade; it was my first introduction to civil liberties and social justice (in the digital age, and everywhere else!)

Over 10 years later and I'm pursuing a degree in tech/data in the public realm, and studying all sorts of different relationships between tech, policing, climate, mobility, accessibility and more. This book has had a seriously profound impact on my life.

Thanks @pluralistic

@mappingsupport @ai6yr or anyone else... do we know where Google gets their smoke map layer? Id be interested in using that in my own maps, paired with AQI sensors. Picture for reference:

@ai6yr @cmgrowell @MsMerope Im curious, do you guys use the Jackery + Solar combo at all outside of outage times? Wondering if it is powerful/meaningful enough to reasonably remove some grid consumption and replace with local energy production? (Specifically the 1000W) Probably only for small things, if any.

@ai6yr Im curious, is there a specific event or reason to make you post this? Is someone taking credit for things they should not be?

@ai6yr you and all of the other Watch Duty staff reporters have done very well. Glad Mastodon is proving to be a valuable emergency resource. X is such a shithole I can't get anything close to the RT coverage I get here.

@ai6yr Google maps showing traffic is getting pretty bad across the board... it's so imperative people get out early.
