Maybe you've seen this post about how you should block trackers if you use : mastodon.online/@mastodonmigra

Well, an interesting corollary is if you use Mastodon to access Bluesky accounts via the bridge, it effectively blocks all tracking. Below is a side by side comparison of a uBlock Origin block log for a popular account on Bluesky versus looking at the same account bridged to Mastodon.

Guess it's pretty obvious, but kind of cool that Mastodon is a Bluesky tracker blocker.

Apparently Bluesky ranks among the worst in their experience for trackers.

Here is a comparison of the uBlock Origin filter log for bsky.app versus Mastodon 👀

(Note: had to cut off the bsky.app page as the log just went on and on yielding dozens of blocks and kept streaming in.)

Sharing if this helps.

This is what my trackers show me about bluesky. It is mainly adblock plus, but that extension does not show the details. Duck duck go does identify third party trackers but they go back to bluesky I think.

Question: How does a company with effectively zero revenue get a valuation of $700M?

This is an astronomical sum, that can not possibly be validated on any kind of forward looking business rationale. The only answer is that Bluesky is selling it's position as the refuge for progressive social media. Herding progressive and resistance voices into a space that can be controlled, and even shut off at the next critical moment, like the next election, is priceless.

So right! Watch Duty is saving lives right now.

You know, Watch Duty isn't some fancy Silicon Vally VC startup thing. It, like Mastodon, is the effort of a small unpaid team of programmers. They saw the need during the 2020 Wallbridge Fire in Northern California, hashed it together in a few hours to help with that catastrophe, and have refined it since then.

They remain a publicly supported 501c3 organization

Look, one thing we absolutely should have learned over the last year is that it matters who owns these platforms.

So, who owns ?

Specifically who, and in what percentages?

Not, some general ambiguous statement, but full disclosure including any obligations like convertable debt or warrants.

It's bad enough that it is privately held and could get snapped up at any moment, but who owns it now?

Folks, we need to become much more cognizant of who owns our social media platforms.

Last year they got $15M from VC firm Blockchain Capital.

Clearly VC firms don't give away money for nothing.

What percent of did Blockchain Capital get for their $15M?

Simple question.
