In response to this post@Gargron Just curious; does anyone know a ballpark figure for how much an advertiser pays for an advert on, say FB?
I was wondering whether the Fediverse or some new entity could go head to head with many of the commercial social media companies, all at once, by taking a no-advertising, federated, not-for-profit micro payments approach. Would have to carefully cover (almost) all of the use cases of all social media and be really well designed but the micro payments would just cover costs and not profits, so may be acceptable as a substitute for adverts to users?
