@CStamp @mattblaze The ETA appears to be required for all visa-free travel to the UK other than UK citizens and Irish citizens travelling to the UK from Ireland. It is not targeted at specific countries such as the USA, it is required for all visa-free travel to the UK.

@badtux @CStamp EU passport holders seem to have a reprieve from the UK ETA for a few more months.

@CStamp @mattblaze ESTA has been in place for visa-free travelers to the US since 2008, I believe. They recently raised the fee from $14 to $21 back in 2022. The UK ETA doesn't appear specifically retaliatory in nature, since it applies to all UK visa-free partners of which the US is only one.

@badtux For some countries. @mattblaze

@CStamp @mattblaze It's also the same data the U.S. requires of UK passport holders to get a ESTA permit to travel to the USA. When your government is a pot, you have no cause to call the kettle black.

@badtux @mattblaze Yeah, it seems retaliatory crap. :(

@mattblaze And for those who are wondering, the U.S. imposes a $21 ESTA fee upon travelers from the UK to USA, complete with requiring them to enter personal information into a U.S. government web site. It's almost as if countries no longer want international tourism.
