*SLAM* "Damn!". Another morning leaving the house in a rush, another set of car keys still on the key-hook behind the locked door.

Any parent knows that messaging the TeenEaters "Hey, let your dad in, I'm locked out" NEVER WORKS. But I have a trick that does. Adjacent universes differ by only the tiniest details. So if I slip next door to a universe where I'm home, I can borrow a key (chaoswalking runs in my family). The key always fits. It's just like borrowing a cup of sugar from a neighbour.

It takes a few more universes today before I find one where other-I'm home. When she opens the door she looks me up and down---"locked out, eh? you're a long way from home, sonny".

The key still worked.

@foone could be, one trick is to drive the 595 at 5v; it will still accept 3v input from the mcu and you get a level shifter for free.

@foone probably for the row strobes, 595s are good for when you don’t have enough output pins (eg i use em for talking to stepper motor drivers in cnc machines). Able to be driven by the SPI unit in a microcontroller.

@xssfox having trouble remembering the name of the novel about a group of people crossing a wasteland with a giant walking sentient pineapple who discovered they could hook onto its root system (consensually, the pineapple offered) to obtain sustenance, but it was a trip.

@industrial_cream verdict: meh. Teeth are coarse, metal and disapppintimgly short. Edges of handle are too sharp for comfortable use as a comb, or as a flip toy. my fingers hurt now. A model with machines (not stamped) handles would be essential.
