The changes to the wording of the #moderation policies #Facebook and #Threads are deeply concerning to hear about, however, they feel more like they are openly admitting what has always been the case than any substantive change. The company has always had an internal policy, like most other corporate social networks, to allow #HateSpeech and other #misinformation to proliferate, as these drive the engagement metrics that drive revenue, on top of often aligning with the values of leadership.
At #TechHub, our policy has, so far, been a "wait and see" approach. We have not blocked Threads yet, but if the time comes when they do finally federate, if ever, we are committed to the plan of taking server level action should their lack of moderation become too much of a problem for us.
Either way, this only underlines the need to bring more people into the #Fediverse network, and away from the large corporate #SocialNetworking services.

I don't necessarily remember what each person's proposed solution is. I literally heard things ranging from "elect Trump and hope things get so bad it forces a revolution" to "embrace veganism and sit-ins until the whole world converts to [insert ideology] and this solves the problem."
I absolutely get your point about how the people who effectively control the election system aren't going to give us options they aren't willing to consent to, I'm just saying that I don't hear any viable alternatives that preclude trying to influence that system.

Because voting gives us more options when it comes to strategy. This last election basically handed the fascists everything they want, as opposed to someone who is merely complicit, who we could negotiate with.

Reminder to people in #Europe and #Canada that there are a lot of #transgender and #disabled people in the US who could use your help right now. There are a few #charities which are going to need some heavy funding over the next couple years (the Trevor Project and ACLU come to mind), and we also have a #MutualAid hashtag right here on Fedi. Please also consider that servers in the US, like this one, are talking about relocating to a safer country, which may change our financials.
