@nazgul There are few good things you can say about Trump. One of them is that he is no warmonger. He didn't start any armed conflicts. This looks to me more like the start of a strong-arm negotiation tactic, like those he would use in business. "I am bigger than you and could just crush you and take what I want. But that would be a lot of trouble and effort, so I offer you this pittance. You should take the deal I offer and make this easier for us both."
@nazgul It works the same way here - immigration makes a lot of people very angry, often for reasons of barely veiled racism. So we set up the same nightmare of bureaucracy for legal immigration to serve as a filter that keeps the dirty poor people out. If you have enough money to navigate the system, you can come in. There are even 'investor visas' that give a fast track path to citizenship if you have at least six figures to throw around.

@dzamie @nazgul Pretty much. One reason for having such a bloated military is so there will be no need to use it: The threat alone can achieve a lot.
