I don't mind sharing my recipes. If someone asks, I'll go to the trouble to find and photograph or screenshot the recipe, or even search out a similar one on the net. I'll take the time to write additional instructions if needed. You are very welcome.

Most times, I don't get a "thank you" or other comment. I might not even get a "like". Most times people don't value the effort that has gone behind that recipe, the pic, the words -- all that effort way before I post a pic and they ask for the recipe. That recipe took a lot of work to research, shop, cook, photograph, write about.

It saddens me. A sign of the times I guess. Be nice people. I have given you a gift. The least you can do is a thank you.

And thank YOU so much if you have responded, and to others who have made the dish and sent me a pic. Love you A LOT. 😍

Cookbook browsing ....

I once read that a very senior editor in a top publishing house considers it good going – a downright success, even – if the consumer cooks two recipes from a cookbook they buy. Two!

(Margaret Fulton's daughter writes about cookbooks: theguardian.com/food/2022/nov/).

I have a determination to not let that happen. I love cookbooks. And I want them to be an active part of my everyday-ness. I love to browse them, just like I might a photograph album. And read them, just like I might a novel.

In sharing my browsings, I hope you too will occasionally get a cookbook down off a shelf. Or from your eReader. Flick through it. Maybe read a recipe or two. Be inspired by them.

But remember, recipes are not reality (like a photo, really). They reflect the author's intent, and that is not always to have you cooking easy, healthy and delicious meals for yourself and your family. Plus, and its a big plus, it is a competitive world, and everyone wants to put out a cookbook. Choose wisely.

So, push and prod those recipes into something that uses what you have or are prepared to purchase, without moving too far away from intent and flavour profiles (unless you are comfortable doing so ).

I love to cook, esp with good products. I grow my own vegies in a garden full of bees and butterflies. I rarely cook a recipe twice (some exceptions allowed). I read cookbooks like others read novels. I love kitchens, especially country kitchens. It'll be the first room I ask to see when I come to visit. I have fond memories of the kitchens of both grandmothers.

I am a bit of a thinker and sometimes I write - including long posts here. In my spare time I think about food in terms of culture, change, connections. I am nervous about food security.

You will find my posts are often , , and , and they will always be current as I have auto delete set.

I love the beauty and absurdness of our lives, and the gorgeous tapestry of humans.

A reminder as US, AU and other politics hot up....

Dear friends, if you are posting about US, UK, FR or AU politics, I would love you to use a eg , or so that I can filter them out. Would you mind?

Otherwise, I might have to mute or block peoples. Would hate to do that.

Just a reminder as the recent events are attracting a lot of comment. Otherwise you've been doing fabulously with your hashtags.
