holiday special… this is the face of a woman thinking “fuck you I won”.

I jettisoned the coat I started last week (energy too scarce to waste on a project that doesn’t excite me), and redirected attention to the water-resistant, bonded houndstooth wool, but with a ‘simple’ cape pattern (new look, N6768).

It was like sewing a tarpaulin. Should have been doable in two days, but took 5. My hands are TRASHED. I love the result.

latest…

Here’s the houndstooth Italian wool wrap dress, as near finished as it needs to be today. I will absolutely wear this.

A couple of details I’m pleased with:

The tie opening on the side seam is reinforced inside with a scrap of leather - invisible on the outside.

The hems are kind of low-rent for the fancy fabric: just overlocked and turned in: quite visible (though colour-matched). More importantly, it keeps that curved edge, and especially the flounce nice & fluid

final update. Still a bit of finishing to be done on the fly opening, but I’m ready for an evening off! I’m pretty satisfied with how these turned out. I love a woven selvedge, so I was pleased to think of keeping it visible on the inside waistband. And I’m definitely more of a shorts-suit person than anything more grown-up, so Will actually wear this lot.
