I see your totally modular nukes and raise you the fact that the part of this great land where everyone actually lives has two things in abundance.

Mountains.
Rain.

Think about that. Now, take that idea, and make it *small* and *modular*.

my friends. No nukes, but also no mega-dam lakes flooding entire ecosystems. No catastrophic failure. No need for an overarching operator. Each community has control of, knowledge of and ability to maintain their own.

Duttos small modular waste will be around long after - Long after you and me. And long after Canberra. So will the emissions of the coal plants and crumbling threat of the massive dams in the Snowy. But these? We draw some kilowatts, and then once all is said and done, remove a shed and a few pipes and it'll be like we were never there - safe for our successors - human and others - to make whatever living they will make from the creeks.

Emil Jacobs - Collectifission

On the subject of costs, we’re often told that nuclear is ‘too expensive’. I was pointed to this report by the UK government on the CfD auction for a variety of projects.

Mind that the ‘exorbitant’ Hinkley Point C is set at £92.50 per MWh. All prices are indexed at the 2012 Pound level.
