i think we should encourage people to get to "able to upgrade the ram in a desktop machine with youtube" and past that i think it's kind of too much to reasonably ask

@nora if people can play dominoes they can build a computer out of parts.
Just gotta match all the numbers up.
"Ah this one says PCIEx16, this is a PCIEx16 card" *click*
"RAM goes in pairs.. Ok. Got them. The numbers on this board match those RAM sticks" *click-click*
"hmm this board has CPU slot 'bzztboink' that's a Bzztboink chip that has higher numbers than other ones, has good reviews." etc...
Arggn why did I post this my brain hates me

multioculate
@nora yeah, I think the reasonable bar (perhaps what a 3-class lesson in a reasonable general school curriculum should be) is "broadly what are the things in a computer (CPU/mainboard, RAM, disk, expansion cards, heatsinks, fans, external ports)", "how to install new RAM", "how to clean your fans and heatsinks", and "how to install/upgrade an SSD/disk" -- the last 2 mostly because it would let people do 90% of the regular service activities on a laptop themself.
