I was taught in school that Hitler came to power in the late 1930's because of endless false promises to a desperate people that wanted to believe almost anything at that point

Ofc after failed attempts he got in power and we all know what followed..

My point, what I currently see in how for example the MAGA cult reacts to Elon's behavior, they often don't care because of his promises

The very same goes with Trump, do we see a pattern here?

@stux A desperate group of people is ripe pickings for a fascist. As it was with Germany between wars with their hyperinflation, so it is in the US now with culture wars and less severe but still noticeable inflation.

@stux and how THE FUCK the most prosperous nation on Earth, uncontested leader of the free world, got to be so desperate in the first place?? It's difficult to me to find pity and empathy with people who had it all, benefitted from it, and STILL feel like victims needing a savior.

We certainly have people in the US who are financially desperate, but not the majority, and that's not why folks voted for him. Restaurants are packed, nail salons prosper, Starbucks drive ups are backed up. . . My neighbors voted for him out of greed, for wanting to be sure that they keep white privilege.
