how does one get started on Linux and coding and being able to use github etc?

I am not computer illiterate but compared to most on this site my knowledge level is minimal. I can share more details of what i do and do not know if it will be helpful.

I just want to be able to do some of the computer privacy and security things I see others talk about. I want to be able to customize and create my computer experience.

@bun as someone else that’s generally Not A Coder 🧑🏻‍💻 but dabbling… my route has been to explore small self-hosted projects. It’s a lot of troubleshooting.

@bun GitHub, from a user's perspective, is generally just a place where developers can put their projects for themselves and others to work on. The README of a project on GitHub will generally have instructions on how to actually download/obtain the software in question and if not, you can see if any releases were published for the projects you're interested in. Those would be where actual downloads can be found.
Contributing to projects on there is a bit trickier and kinda depends on what you'd want to do :)
