Plan A: solar off the roof and a SMA "Secure Power Supply" power outlet that can supply up to 2kW AC.
Plan B: Solar powered shed with batteries and an inverter.
Plan C: Natural gas/trifuel generator. Currently set for propane, but in a non-earthquake emergency could be connected to the BBQ natural gas outlet and run forever (with pause to let it rest, change oil, etc.) Change your oil every 100 hours, folks.

Yeah, it's quite often. Every generator manufacturer say 100 hours. Here is Generac, one of the big manufacturers (also of whole home generators)
