people sure do keep finding themselves thinking "man it sucks i have to support these horrible people in order to stay in touch with people i want to stay in touch with" without ever thinking "hey maybe we shouldnt exclusively use billionaires back yards to communicate" and then going to a different billionaires backyard where they are already doing the same things that made them leave the last backyard.
we all aint never texted or emailed or made a phone call or used irc ffs? come the fuck on. we are pathetic on this front.

@0x00string in fairness (unsure if this post/conversation is interested in fairness), what FB is really good at, and what other technologies at least thus far are not, is hosting space to convene an ongoing daily conversation with a whole bunch of people you also know IRL. A letter doesn't get there. A text thread is closer but still too fragmentary. FB groups really *did* something for people, and it's the reason my ministry colleagues are totally, lamentably hooked.
