@ai6yr A common slang term for a winch on a sailboat is a “coffee grinder” due to the similar operation (crank on top). I like to joke that my boat's old school enough that the only coffee grinder is the one that actually grinds coffee!

In response to this post@ai6yr it's still an important job, mind you. But normally instead of a dedicated crew member, it's usually done by the “snacktician”. They work alongside the tactician to (among other things) make sure the crudites don't get upset by maneuvering.
