the kanji used in the japanese days of the week for instance are just the sun moon and planets (each planet assigned a classical chinese element)
English converted the planets to norse gods for some reason but same basic idea

the date method that has the least ambiguity is the Japanese one where you have kanji to indicate the year month and day and we should just all adopt that
