I am a retired academic, with an MA & PhD in Social Policy & Administration from the Universities of York & Kent respectively. I am disabled, & am deeply concerned about human, gay and disability rights, the climate emergency and the biodiversity crisis. I am currently politically homeless. I like films, classical music, jazz, and reading.

In response to this post@ChrisMayLA6 @junesim63 Except he was appointed to reduce the size of the prison population - which is stated Labour policy, & supposedly a priority, However, this is contradicted by such moves as Labour's increase in the sentencing powers of magistrates, which will increase the size of the prison population, when our prisons are already full to bursting, many of them are grievously insanitary, & all of them are woefully understaffed.

Well, here we hit on the division of Labour (pun intended); if I was to defend Timpson, my guess is the issues you raise are in the remit of the Justice Ministry, and while Timpson may be suggesting these things don't help, my guess is he'll be told he's not a politician & to get on with the bits he's good at - which pragmatically seems to be what's happening
