Someone once told me I'm too sincere to be funny.

Full-time caregiver to a disabled brother and father interested mainly in Thoreau, Zhuangzi, animism, Kings of Convenience, and drinking tea.

Master's degrees in music theory and theology (nonpracticing), classically trained and folk musician (also nonpracticing), and I once organized and helped plant over 800 trees on abandoned mine land (I do still plant trees occasionally).

We are the morning mushrooms, simultaneously connected to and dependent on a vast underground network from which we emerge, flowering and fruiting, temporary and fleeting, coming and going with each day.

1/ Thinking more about this sentence from a blog post from a couple months ago:

How we relate to nature is connected to how we relate to people like my brother; what we mean when we say “nature” is connected to what we mean when we say “disability.”

(freeanduneasy.blog/disability-)

As I read more anthropology, it seems what we mean when we say "nature" is (unsurprisingly) unfixed. And, therefore, what we mean when we say "disabled" or "disability" is also unfixed.

I have been feeling disoriented this autumn, out of place and time. I had been making attempts to write something since the beginning of October but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't do it. And what made it even worse was the guilt I felt for not being able to pull myself out of it.

In a way, that was exactly the problem: there wasn't anything *I* could do to orient myself, to place myself in time and place again.

I'm late to the game because I don't know what I'm doing, so a brief :

I take care of my disabled brother full-time and stress about it the rest of the time. When I have the capacity I like to read and think about , , , and like the work of Tyson Yunkaporta and VF Cordova. I also drink too much tea (), am a former classical and folk musician, and wish I could sit under more trees

unsolicited advice

@farah I have recently discovered the wonders of blanching or parboiling! Root vegetables are perfect candidates for it… makes them soft and tender and pleasantly roasted but it does add an extra step
