I knew that SMS messages weren't secure but this was still startling.

The SCOTUS decision regarding the US #TikTok ban is probably going to set off a wave of scams and malware that claim to offer access to TikTok.
Some unsolicited advice off the top of my head: If you're concerned about the ban and are in the US, download the official app from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store before the can is scheduled to take effect. Ignore everything else.
