Seeing as it’s keyboard week it’s probably the best time to tell this story.

About 30 years ago I worked part time at a very large, very unsuccessful PC retailer. When our parent company finally realised that Dudley was not buying enough hardware to keep the lights on they finally closed us down. One of the last tasks we had to was to process many pallets of Desktops, monitors, keyboards and software into single system boxes to load onto a lorry.

This got very boring after a week or so, until we noticed that the keyboards had removable key caps. If you are very lucky you may encounter one of the legendary, not QWERTY, but WANKER artisanal keyboards.

My son and I have been putting time aside to play some two player games together. We decided to record this one and share it on YouTube. Here is the playlist of us playing It Takes Two on PS5.

Look out for livestreams of this at 18:00 BST.

Some thoughts on “what server should I choose?”
Think of it as picking your starting village. You arrive in town with nowt but the clothes in your back, but there are already plenty of nerds/furries/JoJo fans already here waiting to speak with you.

You pick a familiar environment full of your people. But you also shouldn’t feel obligated to limit your posting to only the specific topic an instance may be founded upon.
You’re a whole-ass person who may spend their day doing the hacking, defending and auditing, but you also enjoy throwing 70’s inspired gelatinous dinner parties. Don’t leave that shit at the door.

And please go find that other instance with half a dozen weirdos who like writing haikus about kitchen appliances, follow them and bring their curated insights over here where we all may enjoy them, and perhaps learn something about ourselves.

There is room for everyone.

You will regret reading this

I was reminded recently of something that happened while I was in a pub in the Cotswolds. I was feeling very left out, but after a couple of pints I got chatting with one of the old fellas there. I explained that I worked in tech and spent a lot of my time attacking computers, and he said that even farm equipment wasn’t safe from “progress” and was filling up with computers.
He told me how he used to help a local museum restore old equipment so that it could be displayed, but the newer stuff was completely untouchable. Not only did nobody have any electronic knowledge, but the manufactures had put in controls that would disable them if it detected tampering. He said that since then he’s not really bothered with restoring work and he just spends his free time in here grousing about it.
Now, this was a few years ago, back when you could still smoke in public houses, and as a non smoker it was starting to affect me. I said that I’m just popping out for some fresh air. The guy looks at me, winks, and starts taking the biggest breath I’ve ever seen. Within seconds the air is completely clear! He walks to the door and blows out all the smoky air into the car park.
I said that’s amazing!
He looks at me confused and says, have you not been listening mate? I’ve just spent the last hour explaining to you why I’m an ex-tractor fan!
