Sigma's Bio

Suspiciously majestic certified code fairy who owns more domains than shoes - definitely not a catgirl!
My main interests are computer languages, programing paradigms, databases and the like. I also dabble with LLMs sometimes.
(I'm CEO at HTMX, btw.)

Besides dark magic, I'm also passionate about music, movies, anime, and, as of late, light novels (currently reading "How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom").

Oh, and (not that I think it's important, but) I'm a strange nerd.

That's enough code for one bio.
😅

@witix@mk.absturztau.be Sounds like a nice idea. Maybe you could even build a system where other people can make an account as well.

I don't think Signal is a particularly good messenger. Most aspects of it are mediocre at best. The only aspect that's really, really good is security.

However, I like using it anyway, because most other messengers either suck even more, or compromise dramatically on security and/or privacy.

Does Whisper count as an LLM?

It's not a GPT. But it is still trained on a lot of natural language, and its bigger variants have more parameters than some smaller LLMs (Whisper large ~ 1.5 B, Lllama 3.2 1-3 B).

The enshittification of AI has lead to the choice of AI used by VLC to be groaned at. I even saw a post cross my feed of someone looking for a replacement for VLC.

VLC is working on on-device realtime captioning. This has nothing to do with generating images or video using AI. This has nothing to do with LLMs.

This is not generative AI.

While it would be preferred to use human generated captions for better accuracy, this is not always possible. This means a lot of video media is inaccessible to those with hearing impairment.

What VLC is doing is something that will contribute to accessibility in a big way.

AI transcription is still not perfect. It has its problems. But this is one of those things that we should be hoping to advance.

I'm not looking to replace humans in creating captions. I think we're very far from ever being able to do this correctly without humans. But as I said, there's a ton of video content that simply do not have captions available, human generated or not.

So long as they're not trying to manipulate the transcription using GenAI means, this is the wrong one to demonize.

Fixed it. Just had to delete the tag and release, revert the bump commit, and redo it manually with cz --increment MINOR.

I could potentially try to manually edit the versions commitizen generated but that sounds like a horrible idea...

That's unfortunate: In one of my projects at work commitizen just did a major version increase seemingly without a reason.
Turned out: A Dependabot bump contained "BREAKING CHANGE" in the PR description and thus in the commit message (but not the trailer).
commitizen erroniously recognized that as a breaking change of the software itself and set the version accordingly.

I can't really fix that either because the commit was sometime in the past and there are multiple devs working on this project. So editing the commit and generating a new version is out of the question.

Why is it that so many developers - specifically in the Java world - don't understand race conditions?!
