Soap and water plus the friction of handwashing is better than sprinkling alcohol for avoiding most contagions.
People would be better off going back to handwashing before eating, before preparing food and after.
The CDC recommends washing contaminated clothing, linens and household items in the hottest water with bleach. People are already contagious days before they feel ill, and still contagious days after.
