His remarks respond to what said about the canal during his speech.

The Panama Canal “has foolishly been given to the country of Panama after the United States — the United States, I mean, think of this, spent more money than ever spent on a project before & lost 38,000 lives in the building of the Panama Canal,” Trump said. “We gave it to Panama, & we’re taking it back.”

President Mulino responded in a Spanish-language statement saying, “I must reject in its entirety the words expressed by President Donald regarding & its Canal.”

“The Canal is & will continue to be Panama’s & its administration will continue to be under Panamanian control with respect to its permanent neutrality,” the statement reads.


In his speech, also suggested that “ is operating the .”

Mulino rejected that, saying, “There is no presence of any nation in the world that interferes with our administration.”
