I should dig into the material physics of crystal resonators the same way I did for capacitors. load capacitance and such for these things is always treated as a dark art and I'm guessing it's going to follow the same general discovery process.

In response to this post@gsuberland hit a rock, it wobbles for a bit... all I've ever needed to know about crystal resonators, apart from a few modes and cap loading.
We are so lucky that most modern electronics hides the complexities with nice drivers.
