@ChrisMayLA6 Yes and no. Actually dates back to the Common Travel Area agreement of 1922 renewed in 2019 by a memorandum of understanding between the two governments prompted by Brexit, so it predates and postdates the UKs membership of the EEC/EU

@ChrisMayLA6 The same rights extend the other way and UK citizen can live in Ireland north or south without any restriction and are treated as if they are a citizen. Both can vote in each others general elections if resident but not the European elections or presidential elections in Ireland nor referenda in either country.
