Wolfram Alpha sucks so hard now. it can't even handle rearranging basic formulae that I fed it without issue just a couple years back.

@gsuberland I thought it was just me...! I was trying to get it to do a wavelength/frequency conversion the other day and it barfed hard. Ended up looking for a dedicated converter.

@gsuberland it has really gone down hill the past couple of years unfortunatly.

Ret

In response to this post

@gsuberland haven’t used it in a while. Is that because of “AI” or just general worsening?

@ret they've gone all-in on LLMs so I would presume that that's a significant part of the problem.

in fact it can't even handle basic trig calculations half the time.

@gsuberland Damn, that thing got me through half of university. Actually just thought about it yesterday while wondering what our equivalent to ChatGPT would’ve been back then.

@zaicurity ironically the reason it sucks is probably down to them inserting LLMs into the query stack.

multioculate

In response to this post

@gsuberland I have been slowly retraining my muscle memory to use `numbat` for unit conversions, but alas I don't have a local computer algebra system of anywhere near the same quality (recommendations welcome!)

@gsuberland

Lemme guess - they've added "AI" to improve it, right?

@CliftonR yes, from what I've read
