so apparently there's a little hidden menu where you can "install by YAML" which means "write your own docker compose in the web UI", which you can use to compose your own custom container and then use "ports" to forward a specific IP/port through to the container, after configuring that IP as an alias in the TrueNAS network settings and altering the default TrueNAS config for the UI to bind to a specific IP rather than 0.0.0.0

you still have to manually write a docker compose file here, and I can't find a way to edit the compose yaml (or even see it) once a container has been set up this way. so you're going to want to very meticulously keep copies of the compose files you pasted in, and if you want to change stuff you'll need to delete the app and completely recreate it.
