Madeleine Morris's Post

I am quietly enraged every day about how much of my attention span gets wasted on billionaires and con men.

Meanwhile, the many people who make my life better on a daily basis get fuck all recognition.

So, I'd like to pay tribute to the district nurse who lives across the street from me and makes home visits to the elderly in my neighborhood. Because that woman literally makes it possible for hundreds of people to live better, independent lives.

I'd also like to pay tribute to Mohamed and Fatima, the couple who run the fruit and vegetable shop two blocks from me. Because every night, before they close their shop, they put neat boxes of slightly over-ripe produce out in front of their shop for poor and street people in my neighborhood to take.

There is an old gent, Javier, who lives at the bottom of my street who puts out rows of cut down water bottles with baby spider plants and rooted pothos cuttings in them with a sign on his front door that says 'take one'.

There's a lady barber in my neighborhood called Marta, who gives free haircuts to homeless men on Friday afternoons. Because she says that everyone feels better after a haircut.

There are wonderful people in this world. Every one of them matters more than Musk.
