Scott Francis's Post

I feel like what Ed's put his finger on here is probably an inevitable consequence of runaway capitalism:

"Things are being made linearly worse in the pursuit of growth in every aspect of our digital lives, and it’s because everything must grow, at all costs, at all times, unrelentingly, even if it makes the technology we use every day consistently harmful.”

If somehow you haven't read this yet, you really really should. Ed does a better job than anybody else I've ever read at distilling exactly what it is about using modern Internet technology that's so obnoxious, and why that is. (Cory Doctorow goes into more detail, but Ed's blog post is the best summary ever.)

“In plain terms, everybody is being fucked with constantly in tiny little ways by most apps and services, and I believe that billions of people being fucked with at once in all of these ways has profound psychological and social consequences that we’re not meaningfully discussing.”

(and to @fere's point, a 42-minute read isn't *exactly* a summary, but it's shorter than Cory's book on Enshittification. :))
