AI6YR Ben's Post

My son (paramedic) was working at the ER last night, and he said: "It was chaos last night. I haven't seen so many people at the ER since the beginning of COVID. At one point we had thirteen ambulances waiting to offload patients." (unclear if this is COVID-19, flu, RSV, norovirus, or all of them btw, no idea). This week is NOT THE WEEK to get sick or hurt in an accident.

@ai6yr
wouldn't smoke from urban fires provoke increased ER visits?

@llewelly No smoke in this neighborhood, and it's been piling up before the fires. Don't know what it is... just general increase in patients, respiratory disease season.

@ai6yr My wife was at a hospital in North East TN the other day. The ER was full, people were parking on the sidewalk. The nurse said it was Covid, Flu, and some kind of 24 hr stomach bug going around. They recently implemented mask mandates for staff and reduced visitors. No mask mandates for people coming in.

@ai6yr ALL of them. Had my 4 patients yesterday and 3 isolation, and something causing months long cough. Very little covid, alot if flu A, RSV here and there. We don't test for norovirus. But we are slammed in our ER too. Numbers we haven't seen.

@ai6yr

Wildfire smoke inhalation?

@SpaceLifeForm No, we are not in a smoke area. It's been busy with 3 hour wall times since last week.

An important anecdote, I think.

Thank you for sharing your son's observation.

@ai6yr here in western Oregon COVID’s quieter than a few months ago but RSV and influenza A have both increased. A lot of patients don’t have a fever to begin with, but so have a persistent cough. A lot of elderly progress to pneumonia and are hospitalized.
