the reason trump is talking about territorial conquest so much is that this is the new zeitgeist of the global far-right wave

it sounds dumb when he says it (because he *is* dumb), and some of his targets are dumb, but this isn't going away
the thing where you're like "that's just not done anymore?" — nah, we're moving into an age where it will be done *a lot*

if i recall correctly, it was Carter that started de-colonizing Panama and that process wasn't actually finished until like the 1990s
so this shit is very recent history
