I read it.

I think it gets human nature wrong, uses a trick of setting up a very unnatural situation to get there (single sex group in isolation), and yet, even with this condition, we know this isn't what happens.

It's part of the whole "thin veneer of civilization over savagery" view of humanity which was prevalent at the time.

People forget that *civilization* is a *natural* product of human nature: we are instinctively self-organizing.

Anyway, you haven't missed much!
