Maria Giulia Alemanno. Yemayá Asesu, contemporary art (n.d.).
Alemanno is a Turin-based Italian magical-realist painter working in Cuba with Santería since at least 2003. I found this #painting while researching my novel. Like Santería itself her art is a complicated blend of many continents, cultures, and ideas. I wonder if my deep attraction to this painting is in part because the artist and I both approach Santería from a shared European perspective.
